Nyoman said that to achieve the target 242 artisans had been deployed to work day and night.  According to him, it is not easy to treat metal like brass because it is harder than copper.

The entire design process was carried out with 70 experts from various disciplines to ensure precision and strength of the building. As a sculptor, Nyoman laid down the basic idea of the palace and developed the accompanying ideological foundation which was later perfected by architects, structural engineers, geologists and other experts.

Energy conservation

The brass claddings will form the facade of the presidential palace. Together, they will form the shape of mythical eagle Garuda, Indonesia’s state emblem. “They will form wind cavity and prevent sunlight from penetrating directly into the building. With these, we hope that energy conservation in this building will be optimal,” said Ir.  Lilik Haryo Panadi, lead architect of the planning team. “Later, naturally when it is in an open space, due to the effect of the weather and sun exposure, the surface color will gradually become greenish.”

Beneath the facade, there will be garden with trees that towered to the height of the building. This is also to provide a natural cooling effect amidst the generally hot weather of Kalimantan,” said Nyoman, who was born in Tabanan, Bali.

This will be a historic moment for our nation,” he said.

According to Nyoman, his involvement in the design and construction process of the presidential palace was solely motivated by his desire to do and give his best as the nation’s child.
