Jakarta, IO – The Constitutional Court (MK) officially rejected the judicial review request on the 70-year-old age limit for presidential candidates. The decision was read out by Chief Justice Anwar Usman on Monday (23/10), per Detikcom.
The petition was filed by Wiwit Ariyanto, Rahayu Fatika Sari and Rio Saputro on behalf of Aliansi 98. They also requested that the presidential candidate to have never been involved in human rights violations.
MK today also ruled on a number of material review petitions of Law 7/2017 on General Elections.
One of the petitioners was Rudy Hartono who challenged the Election Law and sought to have age limit imposed on presidential candidates. The resident of Malang, East Java, argued that age determines a person’s ability and fitness to lead a nation.
