Tangerang, IO – A fire has been raging at the Rawa Kucing Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Tangerang since last Friday (20/10). As of Monday (23/10), around 30 percent of the burned area has yet to be extinguished despite efforts by Tangerang Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD). Around 80 percent of the 34 hectare area has been scorched. In this incident, a warehouse and a number of collection yards were also impacted.

As many as 534 personnel have been deployed, including assistance from Jakarta Fire Department. Resources to put out the fire has been coordinated among Tangerang Regency, South Tangerang City and Banten Province, including 24 fire trucks and other assets.

Firefighters faced significant obstacles due to flammable waste and the size of the burned area. As a result, fire hoses were unable to reach all hotspots. So far, the cause of the fire is still being investigated, but extreme weather and unusually hot temperature make piles of plastic waste highly combustible.
