Jakarta, IO – Doctor Lo Siaw Ging, known for his philanthropic activities, has died at the age of 89. The figure who is affectionately called Doctor Lo breathed his last breath after undergoing treatment at the Kasih Ibu Hospital in Solo, Central Java, Tuesday (9/1).
The news was confirmed by Kasih Ibu Solo Hospital spokesperson David Pangaribuan, per Kompas, Wed (10/1).
Solo’s Chinese community figure, Sumartono Hadinoto, said that Doctor Lo died of old age. The Magelang-born doctor has been frequently admitted to hospital lately.
Martono said Doctor Lo would be buried at the Thiong Ting funeral home on Colonel Sutarto Street, Jebres district.
Doctor Lo was born on August 16, 1934. He is known to be generous to everyone, especially marginalized people who have difficulty accessing health care, per Solopos.

Throughout his professional life, Doctor Lo has often provided medical services for free, even giving out free medicine to his patients. He also often refuses payment on humanitarian ground.
For his dedication, Doctor Lo was also awarded a Masterpiece of Culture in the Health Sector from the Indonesia’s World Museum of Records (MURI) in September 2020. (un)
