Jakarta, IO – The Religious Affairs Ministry’s (Kemenag) Halal Certification Agency (BPJPH) officially revoked the halal certificate for Nabidz “Halal Wine”. The certificate which went viral was said to be the result of manipulation by an unscrupulous actor during the certification process.

BPJPH director Muhammad Aqil Irham said that based on the results of the investigation by the oversight committee, it was evident that there was data manipulation during the product’s halal certification application, per Detikcom, Wednesday (23/8).

Aqil explained that the product in question is fruit juice, not wine. It can be certified through a self-declare mechanism because it is categorized as low risk.
“For the violation committed by a businessperson identified by initial BY, BPJPH has imposed sanctions in the form of revocation of the halal certificate number ID311100037606120523 for grape juice product effective August 15, 2023,” said Aqil.

Furthermore, it was revealed that a halal verification staff named AS knew about the production of the fruit juice through a fermentation process. Instead of stopping the certification process, s/he manipulated the halal certification registration data. BPJPH also imposed sanctions on AS by revoking his/her license.

BPJPH has also ordered the product to be withdrawn from circulation. “If the businessperson still wish to sell the product, according to the rule, s/he must include non-halal information on the product and state the alcohol content rate,” said Aqil. (bp)
