Jakarta, IO – Religion Affairs Ministry (Kemenag) launched a program called “1,000 Religious Moderation Villages (KMB)” across Indonesia.

Deputy minister Saiful Rahmat Dasuki said that the establishment of the KMBs signified a drive to promote peace, tolerance and maintain harmony and diversity in society.

The KMB program, he said, involved many parties who actively take part in building a moderate attitude. This proves that the community is capable of creating positive change.

“Collaboration with government agencies, educational institutions, religious leaders, and the general public provides strength and sustainability in achieving the goals of this program,” he said, per Kemenag.go.id, Thursday (27/7).

The Director General of Islamic Community Guidance, Kamaruddin Amin, conveyed that moderate views, attitudes and religious behavior cannot be built merely through massive narrative, but must also be practiced empirically.

“KMB represents a concrete commitment from Kemenag, together with the regional administrations, to realize religious moderation,” he said. (at)
