Jokowi meets Xi Jinping in Chengdu, discusses a number of strategic issues

Jakarta, IO – A number of bilateral cooperation agreements were discussed during President Joko Widodo’s visit to Chengdu, China, where he met President Xi Jinping on Thursday (27/7).

They included cooperation on health, trade and investment, especially on the development of Indonesia’s new administrative capital city Nusantara (IKN), as well as scientific and technological research, per Setkab.go.id, Friday (28/7).

“Hopefully the collaboration between the IKN Authority and the Shenzhen City Government can contribute to the urban planning and development of IKN,” Jokowi said.

They also discussed contemporary issues in Indo-Pacific. Jokowi and Xi Jinping in particular discussed China’s support for Asean to create peace in the region.

“Indo-Pacific is a strategic region that we must protect to ensure that it remains peaceful and stable,” Jokowi said.

During the meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a number of cooperation agreements including the protocol on inspection and quarantine procedure for Indonesia’s konjac (konnyaku) powder export. (un)
