Jakarta, IO – The Air Quality Index (IQA) in Jakarta reached 171 on Thursday (27/7), the worst in the world. In Central Jakarta, skyscrapers were enveloped in smog.
Jakarta Environmental Agency said that the cause of unhealthy air quality in Jakarta was because residents’ activities produced emissions especially since Covid-19 curbs were lifted.
In addition, Indonesia is in the middle of dry season which is expected to last until August also plays a role in increasing air pollutant concentrations. This condition will ease when rainfall increases in September-December.

The poor air quality is also caused by the increased number of private vehicles and the construction of high-rise buildings in the capital.
