Jakarta Health Dept records 2 Covid deaths

Jakarta, IO – Jakarta Health Department (Dinkes) revealed two deaths related to Covid-19 in December. Both elderly female patients.

“These cases were discovered after there was no Covid-related death for two consecutive months in October and November,” said Ngabila Salama, head of surveillance, epidemiology and vaccination, per Tempo, Mon (11/12).

The two deaths involved an 81-year-old elderly who suffered from comorbid hypertension. She had received three doses of vaccine. The other was a 91-year-old senior citizen with comorbid conditions of stroke, heart failure. She had not received any jab.

Jakarta records a total of 80 positive Covid-19 cases from November 27 to December 3. Ngabila said 90 percent of them showed mild symptoms, while 10 percent had moderate symptoms. All of them were treated in hospital.

Ngabila assured the citizens that Covid-19 transmission in Jakarta is still very much under control. “EG.4 and EG.5 are the dominant variants found in Jakarta with 14 cases each,” she said.

According to Ngabila, there is no need to restrict public mobility and activities yet. However, the government appeals to residents to wear masks consistently, wash their hands more frequently, maintain good indoor ventilation, avoid smoking and complete their vaccination, especially for children and vulnerable groups.

Those aged 50 and older who have not completed their vaccination, people with comorbidities such ashypertension, diabetes, stroke, heart disease, chronic kidney failure, cancer, tuberculosis, HIV and other immune disorders are advised to get four doses of vaccine. (at)
