Jakarta, IO – Effective as of Friday (17/11), Indonesians can use the Quick Response Indonesia Standard (QRIS) to make payment in Singapore.

Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo said this step was taken to support economic growth and the continued acceleration of digitalization of the payment system. This would make it convenient for Indonesians living or vacationing in Singapore to transact using their mobile phones, per CNN Indonesia.

“The implementation of QRIS between Asean countries has been expanded not only to Malaysia and Thailand, but also to Singapore,” said Perry.

BI also planned to expand the use of QRIS to Japan, India, China and South Korea in the next phases.

Furthermore, BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta said the volume of transactions using QRIS in Malaysia and Thailand has continues to increase, especially by Indonesian tourists. “This mainly occurs in tourist destinations and business areas,” she said.
