Jakarta, IO – Indonesia strongly condemns the ongoing Israeli aggression against civilians in Gaza, Palestine. The government also urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to immediately act to stop the conflict.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi emphasized the UN Security Council must not remain silent on the disaster and crimes against humanity that are currently unfolding in Palestine, per Kemlu.go.id, Wednesday (25/10).

According to her, UNSC has a big responsibility to address the situation in Gaza and the roots of the conflict, and ensure the realization of a two-state solution.

“I would like to remind you that the Security Council has a big responsibility to maintain peace and security, not allow the war to drag on, or help one of the parties continue the war,” said Retno at the UN Security Council High-Level Open Debate in New York, Tuesday (24/10).

During the meeting, Retno also questioned UNSC’s role to push for open access to humanitarian aid. “When will the UNSC stop the war in Gaza, realize a ceasefire, open access to humanitarian aid, call for the release of civilians, and end the illegal occupation by Israel?” Retno asked.

“How many more lives must be sacrificed before UNSC takes action?” she pressed. Indonesia also called for a united voice to stop violence and focus on humanitarian issues.

“Please use your great power for humanity. Palestinians deserve equal rights and treatment, we are all human being,” she appealed.

The heightened escalation between Israel and Palestine since October 7 has made the situation between the two countries increasingly tense. Hundreds of lives have been lost and thousands of people injured as the war rages on. (un)
