Hundreds of Houses Damaged by Earthquake in Sukabumi

Jakarta, IO – Hundreds of houses suffered light to heavy damage due to the 4.6-magnitude earthquake that rocked Sukabumi regency, West Java, on Thursday (14/12), at 6.35am WIB, per Katadata, Fri (15/12).

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said that there were four sub-districts in Sukabumi regency that were affected by the earthquake, with epicenter in Bogor City, namely Kabandungan, Kalapanunggal, Cikembar and Kadudampit. So far, there has been no report of casualties.

The sub-district worst affected is Kabandungan, where hundreds of houses in several villages are damaged. While there are no accurate figures yet, the number of survivors are estimated to be in the hundreds.

“Personnel from the Sukabumi branch of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) have joined other teams to carry out monitoring of command posts, assessing the damage and assisting with the evacuation process,” said its spokesperson Ariel Solehudin.

His agency has also mobilized heavy-duty equipment and light trucks to facilitate the debris removal and access restoration in the area. The personnel are also equipped with first aid kits. (bp)
