“Many people died without finding it. You are on the right path if what you are seeking is genuine peace. So always remember that this is your goal in life,” Maya continued.
In addition to commemorating Mochtar as a humanist figure, Maya Lubis also views her grandfather as compassionate person. Maya said her grandfather, born in 1922, really loved her grandmother and he expressed it through trivial but meaningful things. Maya admitted that she often saw Mochtar visited her yard to pick some jasmine flowers and put them on her grandmother’s dressing table.
“That’s what he did every day. There is not a day went by that there wasn’t any flowers on my grandmother’s dresser,” she reminisced.
“Mochtar Lubis for me is a teacher who taught me a lot of lessons that have become my worldview up to now. Apart from being a nationalist, he is also an ideal man, indeed,” concluded Maya. (un)
