Jakarta, IO – The government through the Foreign Ministry (Kemlu) revealed surprising facts about several Indonesian citizens who fell victim to trafficking in persons (TIP).

Kemlu director for Indonesian citizen protection Judha Nugraha said there were a number of victims who returned to the countries and even the same company where they used to work at even though they had been rescued and repatriated by the state, per detikcom, Wednesday (2/8).

“We noted that of the 2,300 that we have repatriated, some of them have returned to work at the same company,” said Judha. “We don’t have exact numbers, I can only say that the numbers are quite large.”

Nevertheless, Judha explained that the ministry and the immigration authorities will continue to monitor and prevent TIP cases in Indonesia.

“We have recorded the citizens we repatriated. We have submitted passport data to the immigration director general so that supervisory measures can be taken and their departure be delayed if there are indications that the process is non-procedural,” said Judha. (un)
