Jakarta, IO – Many countries, including Indonesia, have seen Covid-19 resurgence. Based on data from the Health Ministry (Kemenkes) as of December 6, the average daily cases increased by 35-40 cases.
Kemenkes Disease Prevention and Control director general Maxi Rein Rondonuwu explained that the spike was caused by the Omicron XBB 1.5 subvariant, per Liputan6, Fri (8/12).
Nevertheless, Maxi said that the subvariant that also caused drive up cases in Singapore and Malaysia is relatively mild and the transmission rate is not as fast as other early variants.

This was also confirmed by Erlina Burhan, Covid-19 Task Force (Satgas) chair who is also the executive board member of the Indonesian Medical Council (IDI).
She explained that the number of cases has increased threefold during the October-November period, from 65 patients in early October to 151 by late November. Erlina also revealed that there was one death in November. (un)
