Bromo’s ‘Whispering Sand’ destination flooded due to heavy rainfall

Jakarta, IO – Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) confirmed that the sand sea destination popularly known as the ‘Whispering Sand’ in Mount Bromo, East Java, was flooded on Tuesday (9/1).

TNBTS spokesperson Hendra said the flooding was not the first time and it was normal, per CNN Indonesia, Wed (10/1).

“Geographical conditions in Bromo, especially in the sand sea, often cause flooding, if the intensity of the rain is quite high, especially in certain areas,” explained Hendra.

Hendra said the flood hit several points. However, he said the flood would soon recede and get absorbed by the sand.

Hendra assured that this phenomenon will not cause significant problem. Moreover, the Mount Bromo area is currently still closed due to Kapitu traditional celebration.

Kapitu or Wulan Kapitu is the seventh month in the Tengger people’s calendar, during which time Mount Bromo area will be closed to tourists and motor vehicles barred from entering the area. (un)
