Jakarta, IO – The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) said it has found new paracetamol drops and syrups indicated to contain ethylene glycol (EG), diethylene glycol (DEG) and ethylene glycol butyl ether (EGBE) in excess of safe limit, which can cause acute kidney injury (AKI).

“They were found on paracetamol peppermint-flavored drop and syrup produced by PT Afi Farma,” revealed BPOM chief Penny Lukito, reported CNN Indonesia on Tuesday (1/11).

Although she did not mention the product brand, Penny stated that seven of PT Afi Farma’s products contained excessive EG and DEG that can imperil public health, especially that of children.

“We have ordered them to stop production and withdraw the products in question from the market,” she said.
