BPOM: Contaminated Cough Syrup Naturcold Not Distributed in Indonesia

Jakarta, IO – The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) has confirmed that the cough syrup branded Naturcold which was revealed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to contain dangerous substance, is not in circulation in Indonesia.

According to BPOM’s official statement, Tuesday (1/8), currently none of the products made by the UK-based manufacturer Fraken International is registered with BPOM.

“BPOM has conducted a search on several marketplaces and did not find Naturcold products being circulated in Indonesia,” read the statement.

WHO revealed that the cough and flu syrup sold in Cameroon, Africa, contained high levels of toxic ingredients. Based on WHO Medical Product Alert 5/2023 issued on July 19 the product was found to be contaminated with diethylene glycol (DEG) in excess of the safe threshold based on samples analyzed at WHO laboratory.
