Boat Capsizes in the Thousand Islands, Taiwanese Citizen goes missing

Jakarta, IO – A Taiwanese citizen was declared missing after the Pari Kudus motorboat he was traveling in capsized in the waters around Rambut Island, Thousand Islands regency, Jakarta, Monday (11/3).

The boat was carrying 32 passengers and 3 crew members. The passengers consisted of 22 Indonesian citizens, 5 Chinese citizens, 4 Taiwanese citizens, and 1 Korean citizen, per CNN Indonesia, Tue (12/3).

“A total of 34 people survived but a Taiwanese citizen named Shi Yi has yet to be found,” said Thousand Islands Police chief Jarot Sungkowo.

Jarot said that 34 people had been rescued by a joint rescue team. The boat has been evacuated to Untung Jawa Island.

KM Pari Kudus capsized while sailing from Asha Resort Pulau Payung to Mutiara Beach presumably due to choppy sea. “Due to bad weather conditions, KM Parikudus was hit by high waves causing it to capsize,” he said.

Jakarta SAR Agency head of operations Agung Priambodo explained that the search had been carried out since yesterday and still going on this morning. (un)
