Jakarta, IO – A train accident occurred in Sentolo, Kulon Progo, after the derailed Argo Semeru was hit by Argo Wilis. The Kulon Progo office of thre Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) confirmed that there were no casualties in the accident.
Head of Kulon Progo disaster mitigation agency Admin Nafi explained that, based on the information received, initially the Argo Semeru from Surabaya-Jakarta derailed from the tracks near Sentolo Station. Then, not long after, Argo Wilis which served the Bandung-Surabaya route and traveled from the opposite direction smashed into one of Argo Semeru car.
“Information came in at 1:26pm WIB,” said Nafi, per DetikJogja, Tuesday (17/10).

The driver of Argo Wilis was reported to have tried to hit the brake. However, there was not enough time for the train to stop and avoid the collision.
Ikhbal explained that nine passengers suffered light, moderate and serious injuries. Some were taken to Wates Regional Hospital for further treatment, while other were treated directly at the scene. (bp)
