Jakarta, IO – The F1H2O or F1 Powerboat racing team started to try out the racing circuit on Lake Toba on Saturday (25/2).

Shaun Torrente, of Team Abu Dhabi, last year’s world champion, admits that he can’t wait to compete in the world’s largest volcanic lake. According to him, this year’s race will be an unforgettable experience because the arena has different challenges, namely being at an altitude of 904 meters above sea level, which can affect engine performance.

“We are very happy to race on Lake Toba because this place is different and has a very good racing arena. It will be extraordinary,” he said, reported Antara, Friday (24/2).

Ben Jelf, of Team Atlantic, said the welcome and facilities he received made him even more excited.

“I have done many races but I am very proud to be a part of this. Lake Toba is very beautiful and the welcome we received was fantastic. I am very excited,” he said.

The inaugural F1 Powerboat world championship in Indonesia has had a positive impact on local tourism. All hotel rooms in Toba Regency, North Sumatra, have been fully booked, according to Toba Regency Association of Hotels and Restaurants (PHRI).

In fact, according to him, the capacity of hotels around Lake Toba is insufficient because great number of visitors have been flocking to the area to watch the high-profile event.

“They choose to stay at homestays as an alternative. This event is incredibly popular. We are grateful for that,” he said. (bp)
