Lake Toba’s preparations to host F1 Powerboat near completion

Jakarta, IO – The government continues to finetune the preparations for Lake Toba, North Sumatra, to host the world boat racing event, F1 Powerboat World Championship, which will take place on February 24-26.

“Preparations for the main venue has reached the final stage. We are targeting to welcome 25,000 of spectators,” said Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno, reported CNN Indonesia, Thursday (16/2).

Sandiaga said the organizer will focus on accessibility, amenities and other supporting facilities because apart from hosting the international event, it also aims to promote tourism in Lake Toba. “How we can prepare the local human resources so they are ready to welcome foreign tourists, because we are targeting around 10 percent of them,” said Sandiaga.

“The event will have positive impacts on the community, opening up business and employment opportunities,” he added.

He revealed that this is not a one-off event because Lake Toba has been scheduled to host F1 Powerboat World Championship for five years. Lake Toba has been designated by the government as one of the five “super priority” tourism destinations. (un)
