45 Indonesian Citizens in Palestine and Israel are Safe, Kemlu ascertains

Jakarta, IO – Foreign Ministry (Kemenlu) announced that hundreds of Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Palestine and Israel are safe amid the intense armed conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens Judha Nugraha said that no Indonesian citizens have been killed or harmed by the ongoing air strikes carried out by both sides, per Kompas, Monday (9/10).

Based on the latest information, currently there are 45 Indonesian citizens in Palestine.  More precisely, there are 10 Indonesian citizens in the Gaza Strip and 35 Indonesian citizens in the West Bank.

Previously, the number of Indonesian citizens in the Gaza Strip were 13 people. However, 3 of them have left to Egypt and Indonesia.

“Apart from the 45 Indonesian citizens, there are 230 Indonesian citizens who are carrying out religious pilgrimage at various locations in Israel,” said Judha.

Judha advised Indonesian citizens who are in the conflict areas to increase their vigilance and continue to communicate with the Indonesian representatives. Citizens wishing to visit Palestine or Israel are also advised to postpone their plan.

“In the event of emergency, immediately contact the hotlines of the Indonesian Embassy in Amman, Cairo or Beirut,” said Judha.

The decades-long conflict between Israel and the Palestinian people has erupted to unprecedented level after Hamas launced massive, coordinated attacks against Israel. The tit for tat has so far killed more than 300 residents from both sides and injured thousands others. (bp)
