Yogyakarta Student Mutilation, Police Find Body Parts in Different Sites

Jakarta, IO – Police began to learn more about the mutilation case of a Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University (UMY) student, identified as R, in Sleman, Yogyakarta. Two perpetrators have been arrested.

The case began with the finding of pieces of a human body at five sites in Sleman. The first was at Bedog River under the Kelor Bridge, Turi district on Wednesday (12/7), per Tempo.co, Tuesday (12/7).

An angler found a hand and two parts of a leg. At the first location, a number of items were also found, such as a stove, rope, knife and a pair of sandals.

Then on Saturday (15/7), more body parts were found, allegedly from the same victim at Krasak River, Gimberan, Merdikorejo district.

Five kilometers from the first location, a human head was found buried in an empty field. Yogyakarta Regional Police crime investigation director, Endriadi, said the two suspects were arrested in West Java, Saturday (15/7). They were W, a resident of Magelang, Central Java and RD, a resident of Jakarta.

Endriadi explained that the perpetrators killed and mutilated the victim at their rented house in Triharjo, Sleman. However, the police have yet been able not confirm the time and motive.

Endriadi said the perpetrators and the victim knew each other. One perpetrator was a restaurant employee and the other was cakes seller. “Yes, they were friends, but we are still trying to figure out how close they are,” said Endriadi.

Currently, police are still waiting for results of the DNA test to confirm the detailed identity of the victim. (un)
