Wild fire in Mount Arjuno continues to spread, 1,300 ha affected

Jakarta, IO – Land and forest fire around the Mount Arjuno, Pasuruan regency, East Java, have spread to 1,300 hectares.

East Java disaster mitigation agency chief Gatot Soebroto said fire fighting efforts are still being carried out using water bombing by helicopters on Saturday (2/9). East Java governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has directly led the operation, per CNNIndonesia, Wednesday (6/9).

Of the 30 hot spots, only nine has been extinguished. “As of September 1, nine hot spots have been handled, covering approximately 600 hectares,” said Gatot.

Water bombing is also being carried out in the forest park area, including several affected villages in Pasuruan and Malang. This is being accompanied by manual fire fighting efforts.

So far, 350 joint personnel from a number of components such as volunteers, regional disaster mitigation agency (BPBD), regional government, armed forces and the police have been deployed. (un)
