Jakarta, IO – British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste Owen John Jenkins paid an honorary visit to Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto at the Ministry of Defense, Jakarta, Monday (13/6).

Owen said the meeting was part of the efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation in the defense sector between Indonesia and the UK. Previously, Defense Minister Prabowo had met UK Defense Minister Rt Hon Ben Wallace MP during a state visit to the UK last year.

The visits by high-ranking officials of the two countries proved that the Indonesian-UK bilateral ties are robust, especially in the defense sector. Indonesia and the UK have held an annual defense dialogue forum called Joint Defense Cooperation Dialogue (JDCD) since 2019.

Owen acknowledged that the defense sector had paved the way for closer ties between the UK and Indonesia. In his view, Indonesia is a country that can be relied on to maintain security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

At the meeting, Owen John Jenkins also introduced the UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Indonesia and ASEAN, Richard Graham, a British Conservative Party politician. (si/nhn)
