Avoiding Traveler Diarrhea

In view of her medical condition, a pregnant mother must carefully choose her mode of transport, especially when she is making a long-distance trip, with due consideration for the safety and comfort of herself and her baby. Other tips for safe, healthy travel for pregnant mothers include: loose, comfortable clothing; well-fitting, comfortable shoes; a sensible schedule that includes sufficient rest and meal times; sufficient nutrition and hydration; firm procedures for any medical emergency, and proper understanding of warning signs during pregnant travels.

During pregnancy, pregnant women constantly wonder about their food choices. Here’s a quick rundown of the healthful and the unadvisable, as well as soon striking figures to help keep you focused on eating right while pregnant: Be sure to avoid the following foods as they have been deemed unsafe for pregnant women to consume: undercooked eggs, meat, alcohol, raw fish and sushi, excessive amount of caffeine (up to 150 mg per day is considered okay), certain types of cooked fish (swordfish, shark, tilefish, king mackerel), unpasteurized anything (juice, cheese, milk, etc.). Be sure to eat as many of the following pregnancy super-foods as you can: avocados, pregnancy-approved fatty fish, leafy greens, nuts, beans and lentils, yogurt, oatmeal, lean meats.

To avoid traveler diarrhea, don’t eat raw or undercooked meat or fish, eat unpasteurized dairy products, and drink anything with ice in it – ice may have been made with contaminated water. Eat only cooked food served hot, eat fresh fruits and vegetables only if one can peel them or wash them in clean water, and drink water or energy drinks that are bottled and sealed. (est)
