Jakarta, IO – Two trains collided along the Cicalengka-Haurpugur route in Bandung regency, West Java on Friday (5/1).
State railway firm KAI region 2 spokesperson Ayep Hanepi said the trains are Turangga which plies the Surabaya Gubeng-Bandung route and the Bandung Raya local train (Padalarang-Cicalengka), per CNN Indonesia.
“The incident occurred at 6am WIB,” said Ayep.
PT KAI spokesperson Joni Martinus said the company is still evacuating passengers and locomotives from the head-on collision, per Kompas.tv.
To clear the train track, Joni said PT KAI had deployed heavy equipment to the scene and will focus on the safety of passengers.

To expedite the evacuation and investigation process, Joni said that a number of train trips that were originally scheduled to pass through this route would be diverted to the northern route by making a detour via Cikampek and Kroya.
This detour route will make the trip 2-3 hours longer.
“Previously, we took the southern route from Bandung, heading to Tasikmalaya, Banjar. But now they have to make a detour via Bandung, then to Cikampek and Kroya,” explained Joni. (un)
