Jakarta, IO – Cases of dengue fever (DBD) in the province of Bali has continued to rise. The local health agency recorded thousands of cases with one death from January to mid-March 2024.

Bali health agency’s disease management head I Nyoman Sudiyasa explained that cases in the period reached 2,131 patients, per Detikcom, Thu (21/3).

Gianyar is one of the worst affected with 294 cases in January, 266 in February, and 116 in March. However, the figure is comparatively lower than the same period last year. Bali Health Agency head I Nyoman Gede Anom estimated the number of dengue fever cases by the end of 2023 could be more than 900 cases.

He explained that dengue fever cases usually increase following the rainy season from December to April/May. Anom appealed to the regency and city-level health bureaus to strengthen the surveillance system to reduce the potential for outbreak.

“Map the districts or villages with high rates of dengue fever and immediately intervene through prevention efforts,” said Anom.

Earlier, 7-year-old I Putu GPK succumbed to the mosquito-borne disease. He died at Bali General Hospital (RSUD) on Saturday (16/3). (un)
