IO, Jakarta – Great Indonesia Movement (Gerakan Indonesia Raya – “Gerindra”) Party General Secretary Ahmad Muzani is confident that a meeting between his party’s General Chairman, Prabowo Subianto, and President Joko Widodo in an effort to reconcile after the 2019 Presidential Elections, will definitely take place. Muzani stated that communications have been continuously made with President Jokowi’s supporters to determine the best time for a meeting. “The meeting will definitely be held. Pak Prabowo’s party is communicating with Pak Jokowi’s party, we are adjusting to each other’s schedule,” Muzani stated at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (09/07/2019).
Muzani further stated that his party agrees with the plan for reconciliation proposed by various groups in society. This effort needs to start with the meeting between the two rivals for presidency in the 2019 Elections.
Muzani believes that there is a need to reconcile the people, who are split into two factions with a large potential for conflict. “I think the idea to allow the candidates to meet and reconcile in order to heal the wounds generated by the Presidential Election is a very good idea. After all, whether we are aware of it or not, our people are badly split due to the recent Presidential Elections” he said. “Some supported Presidential Candidate Pair 01, others supported Presidential Candidate Pair 02. Therefore, the need to reunite is real.”
However, Muzani still cannot confirm when exactly the meeting between Prabowo and Jokowi will take place, because both are still obstructed by their respective schedules. “It can happen earlier in these months, or it can be later. However, I honestly cannot determine this firmly, because both of them have tight schedules,” he said. (dsy)
