Police say shooting of Turkish national meets premeditated murder criteria

Jakarta, IO – Badung Police stated that the shooting of a Turkish national Turan Mehmet, 30, by three people in Bali fulfilled the elements of premeditated murder.

Badung Police Chief AKBP Teguh Priyo Wasono said police found indications that the shooting was planned, from the acquisition of firearms, surveillance of target and the execution.

“There are also digital traces that point to a planning,” said Teguh, per Republika, Tue (30/1).

Teguh explained that investigators learned the perpetrators on Monday (22/1), at around 10pm WITA conducted a surveilance at the crime scene. This was clearly recorded in CCTV footage taken by officers from the Palm House Mengwi Villa.

The perpetrators came and asked the security guard at the villa the name of the victim’s residence while monitoring the surrounding before carrying out the attack.

The next day, Tuesday (23/1) at around 1am, the perpetrators returned to the location and attempted murder using firearms. As a result, the victim suffered serious gunshot wounds to several parts of his body.

“From CCTV footage, it is suspected that the three perps had firearms. Their role was to break in together and carried out the shooting,” he said.

The suspects were indentified as Mexico nationals named Aramburo Contreras Jose Alfonso (32), Mayorquin Eacobedo Juan Antonio (24) and Deraz Gonzalez Victor Eduardo (36).

They were arrested on Jalan Jempiring, Ungasan Village, South Kuta District on Saturday (27/1) at around 8am.

“Another perpetrator named Sicairos Valdes Roberto (27) is still on the run,” said Teguh.

They were charged with Article 340 in conjunction with Article 53 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on attempting premeditated murder in addition to Article 365 clause (1) and (2) on theft with violence, as well as Article 368 on extortion.

The victim is still undergoing intensive treatment at the Bhayangkara Police Hospital in Denpasar. (at)
