Natural disaster and Challenging Tasks to Earth-Protecting Measures in international and national level

It is feared that there are disasters in urban or rural communities such as floods coupled with landslides and scarcity of clean water will become a routine while the way in which apparatus is handled and the community’s appreciation for the surrounding environment is very low. This means that the quality of Indonesia’s health and environment still needs to be improved and we still have homework to make that happen.

Data from the Ministry of Health as reported by CNN Indonesia Daily 2018, it is known that only 20 percent of the total Indonesian people care about cleanliness and health. This means, out of 262 million people in Indonesia, only around 52 million people are concerned about the cleanliness of the surrounding environment and its impact on health.

Meanwhile in the statement of the Minister of Environment on Tribunnews.com; 2014), Indonesia is ranked 112 out of 178 countries. The index is based on several indicators including air quality, climate, energy, forest cover, and water management.

While this indifference occurs, fortunately there are still cultural movements in society that do not die out in maintaining the cleanliness and quality of their environment which are carried out by the Ministries/Technical Institutions, including the ArenBased Independent Village program and the use of palm oil for biodiesel as efforts to utilize nontimber forest products to produce food and energy and other empowerment programs.

Globally, awareness like this is felt to be getting stronger with the discovery of the negative effects of various ways of using greenhouse development in various cities in the world where the greenhouse effect can make the protective ozone layer from the sun dwindle. The impact of this event also further increases the earth’s temperature which if it becomes above 2 degrees which can bring a major disaster to the world which is marked by the melting of the polar ice caps.

Ironically, today’s world development still makes use of methods that are not environmentally friendly, including the use of non-renewable resources, trade politics that are only concerned with capitalists, and armed conflicts in certain areas which are basically in dire need. All of this seems to be Challenging Tasks to EarthProtecting Measures in international and national Level as well as homework for actors in supporting peace and environmental preservation.

The dynamics in facing the challenges of the world and humanity and the environment above illustrate the accumulation of problems that come and go along with efforts to treat and save the earth from further damage by leaders and the world community.

We all know that there have been a number of efforts to save the earth through discussing issues of saving the environment in international meetings including the Earth Summit (Brazil, 1992), the Paris Conference on Climate Change / Conferences of the Parties / COP which was first held in Berlin 1995 and then continued.

In addition, there was also an international meeting that proclaimed the Millennium Development Goal/MDG program agreement (New York, 2000) whose implementation had ended (2015) strengthened by the agreement sparked at the meeting in New York, 2015 which succeeded in issuing a document known as Sustainable Development. Goals/SDGs with 17 Goals/Goals in the 2015-2030 periods with the following objectives:

The first goal is to end all forms of poverty everywhere.

The second goal is to end hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.

The third goal ensures healthy lives and promotes well-being for all people at all ages.

The fourth goal ensures inclusive and equitable education and promotes life long learning opportunities for all.

The fifth goal guarantees gender equality and empowers all women and girls.

The sixth goal ensures the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

The seventh goal ensures access to affordable, secure, sustainable and modern energy for all.

The eighth goal promotes sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, as well as full and productive employment and decent work for all.
