As found in a 2020 Lazada study titled “The Acceleration of Indonesia’s Digital Economy through e-Commerce”, e-Commerce is to be the catalyst for accelerating the growth of our digital economy. It has an enormous impact towards our UMKM, which is why Lazada creates various incentive and educational programs to encourage UMKM digitalization and empower our community in turn. According to data of the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium-sized Businesses, no fewer than 19.5 million UMKMs have joined e-Commerce platforms by June 2022. As the manager of such a platform, Lazada continues to innovate, in order to ensure the attractiveness and utility of its platform for both sellers and buyers. Its various programs and initiatives are meant to ensure that digitized UMKMs will continue to survive and maintain their competitiveness in the digital economy ecosystem.

Lazada Indonesia SVP of Seller Operations, Haikal Bekti Anggoro, describes Lazada’s findings as it strives to help develop UMKMs as #PahlawanEkonomiDigital (“#DigitalEconomyHeroes”). “The contributions made by these #PahlawanEkonomiDigital continue to become greater along with the increase in the number of UMKMs joining e-Commerce platforms. Lazada itself continues to note an increase in the number of actively trading sellers on its platform. Here’s a funny thing: the Capital City and Provincial Capital regions are no longer areas with the fastest-growing number of sellers – it’s their supporting townships and regencies that grow faster. For example, towns and regencies in Central Java and West Java record an economic growth rate double that of national growth, while the Regencies of Bandung and West Bandung record a triple increase in the number of sellers in comparison with the City of Bandung that they support. This shows our commitment to open up access to UMKMs anywhere in Indonesia,” he said proudly.

Haikal went on to report that, “Customer enthusiasm for the YearEnd Online Shopping Festival remains huge. Therefore, it is essential that sellers prepare themselves well. Gratis Ongkir, the Free Delivery promo, remains the main reason for customers to shop online. So, as part of our commitment to provide shopping satisfaction, we are involving customers and asking them to participate in the scheme. The promo method succeeds spectacularly, as our data shows that sellers who provide Gratis Ongkir can have an up to 100% increase in their number of orders. Furthermore, in order to encourage customer shopping during the Festival, we update our features. For example, our “Flash Sale” is now called “LazFlash”. By using this feature, sellers can enjoy a maximum of 7-fold increase in the number of units sold in comparison with an ordinary day.”
