Kemenkes urges public to mask up again after Covid surge

Jakarta, IO – The Health Ministry (Kemenkes) urges the public to re-implement Clean and Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS), especially mask wearing, especially on public transportation and in crowds.

Kemenkes health quarantine and surveillance director Ahmad Farchanny said the measure is necessary to anticipate the increase in Covid-19 cases, per Kompas, Mon (18/12).

“In light of the current situation, we are advising the public to observe the health protocol by start to wear masks again, especially on public transportation,” said Ahmad.

People are also advised to have themselves tested or immediately visit the nearest health service facility if they experience symptoms such as coughs, colds, fever and sore throats.

Kemenkes has sent circulars to local governments and health facilities to improve awareness of Covid-19. All health care facilities are asked to increase preparedness, especially to conduct testing.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo previously has instructed the Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin to continue monitoring developments in Covid-19 cases in the country.

The country has witnessed resurgence of Covid cases ahead of the Christmas and New Year holiday season. The trend has also been observed in neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Singapore. (un)
