Jakarta, IO – The scene at Kampung Gasong scavenger settlement in Menteng Atas, South Jakarta. Amid the high rises, the densely-populated informal settlement full of used goods is a jarring sight.
QGasong Village, popularly known as “Gashonk” is a residential area where the majority of the residents make their living as scavengers. They collect used goods like bottles and wood scraps and resell them to trash collectors to make a living.

The goods are valued between Rp1,300 to Rp3,000 per kilogram depending on the type.
