Jakarta, IO – Environment and Forestry (LHK) Minister Siti Nurbaya said the inspection of hundreds of companies is targeted to be completed within five weeks, starting August 28.

Siti explained that out of a total of 351 companies identified as sources of air pollution, 161 received more attention and will be prioritized, per CNNIndonesia, Friday (1/9).

The air pollution handling task force team chaired by LHK Ministry’s law enforcement director general Ratio Ridho Sani has inspected 18 business entities, and 11 of then have been given administrative sanctions.

She explained that more surveillance activities have been carried out in areas with consistently poor air quality, such as in Lubang Buaya area, East Jakarta.

“We, together with Jakarta Provincial Administration, are closely observing why the air quality in the area (Lubang Buaya) is always unhealthy,” said Siti.

Jakarta is currently implementing work from home (WFH) to mitigate air pollution. However, this policy is considered insufficient to improve air quality in the capital. Thus, eliminating the source of pollution should be the first step. (un)
