Jokowi Expresses Readiness to Represent OIC as Negotiator for Palestine

Jakarta, IO – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said he is ready to represent the delegation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as peace negotiator in the conflict in Palestine.

This was conveyed by the executive chair of the Association of Islamic Students (HMI) Raihan Ariatama after his meeting with Jokowi, Wed (8/11). He said Jokowi would soon attend a meeting with the leaders of OIC members, per Katadata, Thu (9/11).

“The president stands ready to be appointed as a delegation representative to carry out negotiations with Israel or the US,” said Raihan.

Raihan also said HMI has continuously encouraged the government to maintain its stance on supporting the Palestinian cause. He also asked Jokowi to continue monitoring the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

“After all, Palestine was the country that gave its support for Indonesian independence. Of course we have to reciprocate in kind,” he said.

The consistency of Indonesia’s support for Palestine is proven by the delivery of 51.5 tons of aid to Palestinians in Gaza. Indonesia also sent a hospital ship to treat the war victims.

In addition, the government through the Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) has also provided five-year full scholarships for 22 Palestinians students to study at the Indonesian Defense University (Unhan). (un)
