Jakarta, IO – Jakarta is now officially no longer a special region. Its status as Indonesia’s capital city ended on February 15.

This is in accordance with the implementation of Law 21/2023 which amended Law 3/2022 on the state capital (IKN) which stipulates that Indonesia’s administrative capital is to be moved from Jakarta to Nusantara, located in North Penajam Paser regency, East Kalimantan, per Katadata, Thu (7/3).

Thus, Jakarta’s dual role as a provincial autonomous region and the national capital will no longer be valid as of February 15. Jakarta is currently only a provincial autonomous region.

Another consequence as a result of the administrative capital relocation concerns the participation of Jakarta governor in cabinet meetings on matters relating to the interests of the nation’s capital.

In addition, Jakarta no longer has the right to propose the creation of a special zone to be jointly managed with the central government.

There zones refer to areas designated to carry out certain government and state administration functions that are specific to the national interest, such as the National Armed Forces (TNI) headquarter, Medan Merdeka as the central government district, to Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex and Halim Perdanakusuma Airport/Air Base as the main disaster evacuation area.
