Ijen Crater closed to public from today as part of evaluation after the long holidays

Jakarta, IO – The East Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) is closing the Ijen Crater Nature Tourism Park (TWA) starting today, Wednesday (3/1). This step is carried out until further notice.

“We don’t know yet about its reopening and we will provide further information,” said Head of TWA Ijen Sigit Hariwibowo, per Liputan6.

Sigit explained that the closure of the tourist destinations spanning two regencies — Banyuwangi and Bondowoso — was carried out in the context of evaluation after the long Christmas and New Year holidays and to prepare for upcoming visits.

“Of course, we need to evaluate what needs to be repaired, we will evaluate it. This is solely for the comfort and safety of visitors or tourists,” he explained.

Ijen Crater is one of the favourite tourist destinations in Banyuwangi regency. The crater features a magnificent blue flame attract hundreds of domestic and foreign tourists every day.

According to Banyuwangi administration, the tourist destination that is included in the Global Geoparks Network welcomed 7,612 tourists last year.

Ijen Crater TWA is in the fourth most visited tourist location in Banyuwangi after Boom Marina Beach, Pulau Merah Beach and Banyuwangi Park. (un)
