Jakarta, IO – Communications and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi has threatened various digital platforms with fines of up to Rp500 million if they continue to distribute online gambling content.

“To all digital platforms including X, Telegram, Google, Meta and TikTok, if you are not cooperative in eradicating online gambling content, you will be fined up to Rp500 million per content,” Arie said, per Kompas, Fri (24/5).

In addition, Budi emphasized that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) must also contribute to this effort. If not, the government will revoke their permit. According to him, these two policies are implemented based on applicable laws, one being Law 11/2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions, and Government Regulation 43/2023 concerning Types and Tariffs for Non-Tax State Revenue which applies to Kominfo.

He explained that Kominfo had asked 1,011 ISPs in Indonesia to automatically synchronize their system with the list of negative content including online gambling to Kominfo’s TrustPositif Domain Name System (DNS).

TrustPositif is a platform for filtering negative content under the control of the Subdirectorate of Internet Content Control, Directorate of Information Application Control, Directorate General of Information Applications, Ministry of Communication and Information.
