Govt confirms no Indonesian casualty in Maine mass shooting

Jakarta, IO – The government confirmed that no Indonesian citizens fell victim of the mass shooting in Maine, US on Wednesday (25/10).

Foreign Ministry’s (Kemlu) director for the protection of Indonesian citizens Judha Nugraha has coordinated with the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in New York and relevant authorities. He said currently there is only 1 Indonesian citizen living in Maine, per Sindonews, Friday (27/10).

“KJRI New York has coordinated with local authorities and community groups around Maine. Based on the information so far there is no Indonesian casualty,” said Judha.

He also confirmed that KJRI New York has advised Indonesian citizens to increase their vigilance regarding armed violence in US.

The shooting occurred at two locations, namely Schemengees Bar and Grille and Sparetime Recreation Bowling Alley, Lewiston. This incident left 22 people dead and more than 50 injured.

Police later identified Robert Card (40) as the suspect. He is reported to be a trained firearms instructor who has a history of mental health problems. He also serves in the US Army reservist unit in Saco. (un)
