Jakarta, IO – A huge blaze destroyed a giant Buddha statue at the Dafo temple, Zhangye, Gansu Province, China on Monday (24/7).
After the fire was extinguished, the Shandan Great Buddha Temple appeared to be partially intact, but several temple buildings were destroyed.
The statue was built in 1998 as a replica of the original, which dates from around AD 425 and was damaged during the Cultural Revolution, per Okezone, Wednesday (26/7).

A statement issued by the local agency on Tuesday, (25/7) confirmed that there were no casualties from the fire and the cultural relics of the temple remained undamaged. The statement did not specify the nature of the cultural heritage.
“The cause of the fire is still under investigation,” the statement said. (rr)
