Foreign Ministry works to free 53 WNI who fell victim to fraud in Cambodia

Pnom Penh, IO – Indonesian embassy in Pnom Penh continues is working to free 53 Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were reportedly held captive. They reportedly fell victim to a fraudulent investment company in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.

The Indonesian Embassy has contacted the Cambodian Police to request assistance for their release. Currently, the Cambodian Police are carrying out investigation.

“The initial information we received was that they were being held captive. This report is being investigated by the Cambodian police,” said Judha Nugraha, Director for Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Entities (BHI), as reported by Medcom on Friday (29/7).

“Based on the modus operandi of the previous cases, they were ordered to scam the victims, who are mostly Indonesians, to make a fraudulent investment,” he continued.
