Jakarta, IO – Visitors gazed at works of art at the Jakarta Provoke Exhibition at the Pos Bloc Building, Jakarta. The exhibition, which will run from June 14-23, will feature a number of works of sculpture, painting and installations with various themes and materials from 19 Jakarta artists.

Organized by the Artpora art community, it aims to provoke, inspire and restore the centrality of art in the reflection of human life, especially in the social, economic and political context in Indonesia today. This exhibition also invites visitors to revisit current and critical issues through “artistic provocations” by contemporary artists.

For example, the installation work by Syakieb Sungkar which displays current social conditions by parodying junk food icons in a deformed form. His work depicts the skeleton of a dead person buried in a bed which is a place to relax or a symbol of comfort. However, the bed that was supposed to be a place of rest instead became a grave.

According to Syakieb, people eat junk food because they tend to choose a fast-paced and practical way of life. A comfortable, easy and fast life will make people complacent.
