VP Ma’ruf Orders Investigation into National Data Center Hacking


Jakarta, IO – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin ordered the agency that handles the National Data Center (PDN) to investigate the impact of the server attacked by ransomware.

“The priority is that we restore, normalize the situation. Thank God, now it is already normal,” said Ma’ruf in an official statement, per Wapresri.go.id, Tue (25/6).

“The cause is being investigated by Kominfo [Communications and Information Ministry] and also by the National Cyber ​​and Encryption Agency (BSSN), and relevant security agencies,” he explained.

Ma’ruf also highlighted frequent hacking incidents. He emphasized that the government will continue to take anticipatory steps to protect government and citizens’ personal data.

“Therefore, we will strengthen our efforts to protect the confidentiality of the state, society and public services so that they cannot be disrupted,” he said.

Ma’ruf asked that there be no more hacking attacks on PDN servers in the future. In the future, he said the government is trying to implement the One National Data policy with the aim of preventing various important state and personal data breach.

“This disturbance is a valuable lesson for us, therefore it needs to be anticipated and must not happen again in the future,” he stressed.

Previously, Communications and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi explained that the cyber attack on the PDN server used a new type of ransomware virus known as Lockbit 3.0. He also confirmed that there was a demand for US$8 million in ransom (Rp131 billion). (un)
