East Java Provincial Government Launches New Batik Motif Called Omah Budoyo


Jakarta, IO – The launch was conducted at the East Java Fashion Harmony (EJFH) 2024 at Midodaren Beach, Tulungagung regency, last weekend.

The Omah Budoyo motif contains deep environmental philosophy and the nature of life of the East Javanese people, represented by the omah or traditional East Javanese house and the budoyo as a symbol of the character of the people.

Acting Governor Adhy Karyono explained that this batik motif is a synthesis of various motifs with cultural nuances typical of the people of East Java.

“In general, this motif also contains elements of cultural heritage in the form of buildings and flora which have philosophical value,” said Adhy, per Kompas, Wed (26/6).

Adhy explained that the motif had gone through a curation process from the East Java Province Culture and Tourism Service and batik experts in East Java.

“Hopefully this work can improve the East Java economy because EJFH and the birth of the Omah Budoyo batik motif as one of East Java’s achievements,” he said.

EJFH has been held since 2019. Over the last four years this agenda has even been included in the Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) which is a program of the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry.

Themed “Rise of Reminiscence”, this year’s edition aims to explore, elevate and popularize the treasures of East Javanese wastra (fabric) and preserve Indonesian cultural heritage. (un)
