Jakarta, IO – A number of visitors observe electric motorbikes at the Inbuyer EV Expo 2023 at the Smesco Building, Jakarta.
Sales of electric motorbikes in Indonesia until the end of the year are still far below the target. Since its launch in March, uptake of the Rp7 million worth of subsidy has been slow, with the public showing little interest, even after the program is expanded.
According to data from the Two-Wheeled Electric Motor Vehicle Purchase Assistance Information System (SISAPIRA) website, only 4,148 subsidized units have been sold, leaving a remaining quota for 195,852 units.

The Industry Ministry (Kemenperin) stated that it is possible that subsidies will not reach the target of 200,000 units this year, even though electric motorbike production is sufficient.
The Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Industry Association (Aismoli), whose members include a number of brands that receive subsidies, explained that the lackluster demand was due to the lack of dealers and workshops.
