Complete vaccinations before the Christmas and New Year 2024 holidays

Jakarta, IO – There has recently been an increase in Covid-19 case numbers in several Southeast Asian countries, namely Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines. In Indonesia, data from the DKI Jakarta Health Service, after zero deaths in October and November 2023, as of December 12, two Covid-19 positive patients with comorbidities were recorded to have died. 

Regarding the 2024 Christmas and New Year holidays, the Ministry of Health recommends the public complete their vaccinations amid a surge in Covid-19 cases, and has issued a circular regarding Precautions against the Covid-19 Surge for Foreign Travelers. Interactions with people from various countries means that those traveling abroad are at a greater risk of contracting Covid-19. 

This is to ensure everyone has sufficient immunity to travel, so that they do not become infected and become a source of infection during the trip and when returning to their homeland. “So it is highly recommended to immediately complete Covid-19 vaccinations, both primary and booster doses, according to the provisions,” said the Head of the Communications and Public Services Bureau Ministry of Health, dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, M.Epid, in Jakarta, Monday (11/12/2023). 

She added that efforts need to be made to ensure that people’s immunity levels remain high, by ensuring the availability of Covid-19 vaccination services. “Heads of provincial and district/city Health Services have been asked to ensure that all community health centers and health service facilities in their work areas continue to provide vaccination services,” she said.

As a preventive measure, here are the precautions that the community can take. First, if you have a cough or flu, immediately get tested for Covid-19. If the result is positive, self-isolate and access telemedicine after receiving notification from the Ministry of Health. Second, use a mask when in crowds or risky public places. Third, wash your hands regularly. Fourth, complete vaccination until a second booster. Fifth, postpone travel to areas where Covid-19 cases have been reported. (est)
