New case of monkey pox found in Cirebon, bringing total to 44

Jakarta, IO – A resident of Cirebon was tested positive for monkey pox on Friday (9/11), announced the head of Cirebon Health Agency, Neneng Hasanah.

Neneng said the report was based on information from the Cirebon City surveillance team after direct sampling was carried out on suspected monkey pox cases, per Kompas, Mon (11/13).

“We immediately carried out an epidemiological investigation and took samples. On Friday evening one sample was declared positive,” said Neneng.

Neneng said the infested male was still under investigation. However, it was known that he had a travel history from Bekasi and Subang. The patient is currently undergoing self-isolation at home because he is considered stable enough.

“He showed symptoms on October 25 including fever, joint pain and there were around 15-26 lesions on the face, hands and back,” Neneng explained.

As of November 12, the Health Ministry (Kemenkes) has tallied 44 cases of monkey pox. Kemenkes spokesperson Mohammad Syahril said that most of the patients were detected in Jakarta (33), followed by West Java (5), Banten (5) and Riau Islands (1). (un)
