Jakarta, IO – The culprit behind the massive bushfire on part of Mount Bromo National Park known as the ‘Teletubbies Hill” in East Java was served a jail sentence of 2.5 years by the Kraksaan Probolinggo District Court on Wednesday (31/1). He was also ordered to pay Rp3.5 billion in compensation, per Tempo, Fri (2/2).
The punishment was more lenient than what the public prosecutor had asked for, which was 3 years in jail and a fine of Rp3 billion, subsidiary to six months in prison.
His attorney Hasmoko criticised the verdict as “too harsh”. “My client absolutely had no intention to burn Teletubbies Hill, but we still respect the ruling,” he said.
